Hast o Neest Institute of Traditional Studies & Arts Three Month Course: An introduction to the Art of Turkish Illumination with Azma Salman – starting Wednesday 12 September 2018 – where participants will learn:
– The Motifs and the Vocabulary of this art form
– All the stages of a finished work of art
– Preparation of ‘ahaar’ and ‘muraqqa’ special paper and board used for illumination and calligraphy
– Gilding, process of making shell gold from gold leaf and its application
The three month course will be held on Wednesdays – that is once a week – from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. No prior experience to fine arts is required for participation.

Azma Salman is an illumination or “Tezhib” artist and has been teaching Traditional Islamic Art at the National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan. Holding a Masters of Arts in Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts, she is the only illuminator in Pakistan with a formal degree in Islamic Art field. Despite that, she still travels to Turkey to receive training from the masters of illumination there. Her works has been exhibited in London and Pakistan.
